Archives des luttes des femmes en Algérie (Archives of Women’s Struggles in Algeria) is an independent project founded in 2019, by researcher Awel Haouati, whose aim is to build a contributory digital archive of documents produced by Algerian women, feminists and women rights groups, collectives and associations.
Join the VBKÖ for a public talk with Saadia Gacem, co-director of the Archives des luttes des femmes en Algérie! The event will offer reflections on the importance of community archives in preserving feminist memory and documenting histories of resistance.

Saadia Gacem is a PhD candidate in anthropology at Aix-Marseille Univ. Her research focuses on the judicial treatment of domestic violence cases in courts in Algiers. In 2019, she directed her first documentary film, Felfel Lahmar („Red Pepper“). Saadia is a feminist activist with a strong interest in the history of feminism and the trajectories of women activists in Algeria. She co-founded the feminist magazine La Place with Maya Ouabadi and co-directs the Archives of Women’s Struggles in Algeria project with Awel Haouati.
The public talk will be held at the VBKÖ Archive, with guest speaker Saadia Gacem joining the talk virtually. Free and open to the public – all are welcome.
